PackSense: Thinking Ahead Pays Off

Anyone who takes the time now to understand the new packaging regulations isn’t just being smart—they’re also gaining a head start on those who’ll soon be scrambling to catch up. So it’s great to have you here!

About PackSense

Content first. Form follows.

PackSense helps companies improve their packaging based on current and upcoming regulations — backed by evidence, independent insights, and a keen understanding of what works technically, legally, and practically.

We believe true progress only happens when insight, willingness, and feasibility come together. That’s why we help align these elements within your organization and translate them into workable solutions. We closely follow both local and European regulations (such as the PPWR) and have a deep understanding of the practical reality in the Netherlands and surrounding countries.

PackSense was founded by Optimum Group but operates fully independently as a knowledge partner.

OK-List

Practical guidance in complex times

The OK List was developed in response to a growing problem: many companies want to improve the recyclability of their packaging right now but don’t know where to start. What are smart choices? What actually works? And what will soon be required?

Together with Ulphard Thoden van Velzen (WUR), PackSense created the OK List. The list originated from the InReP project and combines insights from practical research, recycling technology, and legislation. The result is a pragmatic guide—not a decision tree, but a clear overview of plastic packaging types that can be considered “OK” under both current and expected regulations.

The list helps you to:

  • make better material choices from the design phase
  • quickly assess whether existing packaging is future-proof
  • guide internal discussions with clear, content-driven insights

The list does not replace official tools like the Recyclecheck, but complements them by providing quicker direction. It includes combinations of PE, PP, or PET with concrete examples of what is technically recyclable—if designed, labeled, and used correctly.

The OK List is a living document and is continuously updated.
